The Cross of Jesus

At this blessed time of Easter, I am reminded of the cross of Jesus and what it means to me personally. It is both a symbol of death, and wonderfully, a symbol of new life and how my life changed completely for the better because of the cross. As a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, I realize the gravity of accepting the cross, not only as a means to my salvation, but as a way of life that I try to live by, however much I may stumble. It is the best life but one that costs dearly. In this day of political correctness, the cross is a stumblingblock, for its very nature is to destroy the things that try to destroy me, and that is the life of sinful pleasure and the life of “self” that wants to rule and control. Truly, as Scripture says, the wages of sin is death. When Jesus died on the cross, he put to death the power of sin over us. All we have to do is repent, believe and receive. Then we take up our cross and follow our newfound Friend and Savior, and experience freedom from self and all its demands, eternal “life,” and so much more.

Jesus said it so well here:

Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Mat 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
Mat 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Have we taken up our cross? It is not an easy road, that’s for sure, and you won’t fall into the company of the “politically correct” if you are really serious about living out your faith according to Scripture. But, it is the “only” road without a doubt, for it’s the one that ultimately leads to life and peace when we choose to follow Jesus and ask Him to be Lord of our life.
